ThunderCats is of course the property of Warner Bros. Ian Hubert's lazy tutorials are particularly awesome and inspiring. Thanks also to the many YouTubers who upload Blender tutorials - I must have watched hundreds of them. Lightning style effects were done in Adobe After Effects. Shoutout to those behind the MB-Labs plugin for Blender which I used to create the base models for Lion-o, Cheetara, Tygra, Panthro, WilyKit and WilyKat.

I will at some point make a ThunderCats short film, but I'll wait until the software reaches a point where I can film a performance on my camera and just drag and drop it onto my 3D characters.Īll 3D animation was done in Blender, an awesome (and completely free) animation software. I've got no plans to make anything else like this. The ThunderCats have been a love of mine since I can remember and the intro is something I thought would be a fun challenge to recreate and keep my interest while I was learning the software.

It’s not top-notch CGI animation, but still… it sure turned out to be freakin’ cool!Įarlier this year, I thought I'd have a go at learning how to use 3D animation software, really just so I could do some simple effects in my films. The CG animated intro was created by Mike Booth, and he talked about the inspiration behind making this and the process that went into bringing it to life.

It's a cartoon which both kids and adults can love.Attention ThunderCats fans! The into to the classic cartoon has been awesomely remade with CGI animation by a fan, and you’ve got to check it out! This was my favorite cartoon as a kid and I find now watching them on DVD, I love them more than ever. Cartoons today stink, the 80's rocked for the best cartoons and ThunderCats were the best ever. And that most kids love cats didn't hurt either. The cartoon blended three very important elements which helped it become a success: action/adventure storytelling, humor, and moral & ethical values. All the ThunderCats were superb characters, though I must say Tygra is my favorite.

Kids also related well to Wilykit and Wilykat, two kids on the team who had to deal with adults telling them what to do. As Tygra said in the second episode, he missed those important growing up years where a person matures into adulthood. Dan Lin of Rideback and Roy Lee of Vertigo, who produced Wingard’s film Death Note, were.

In a time when heroes were macho beyond macho, Lion-O had the vulnerability of having the mind of a child trapped in the body of an adult, the result of his body aging while spending 10 Galacto years in a suspension capsule. Kong director Adam Wingard is attached to helm a computer-animated adaptation of the beloved 1980s Rankin Bass animated series Thundercats for Warner Bros., from a script Wingard will write with frequent collaborator Simon Barrett. This pilot was available in two forms: broadcast as an hour-long special featuring Exodus and The Unholy Alliance edited together, and also as an official home video release featuring Exodus, The Unholy Alliance, Berbils and The Slaves. It had sensational, original music which had a different theme for each character and the theme song was catchy and simple enough for kids to pick up and sing along. A vivid memory for many ThunderCats fans is the first time that we saw the ThunderCats pilot. With the most talented voices of any cartoon, ThunderCats reached the top of the charts, an instant hit. In a time when Anime was not yet that popular in the U.S., the creators of ThunderCats had the sensibility to try something new, to make ThunderCats stand apart by using Japanese cartoonists. ThunderCats is the absolute best cartoon ever created.
